The speaker last night was Mervyn Jackson who is an expert in Bee keeping and he provided a very informative talk on how to keep bees and the pests and difficulties that you can encounter as a bee keeper.

It was clear that if you want to keep bees it is not simply a case of buying a hive and some bees, there are a number of important jobs that need to be done throughout the year.

There were a few people in the audience that wee thinking of keeping bees, while one or two were put off by the amount of work required, I for one are even keener to give it a go now I feel more informed about what is required.

Mervyn is the the chairman of the Hagley and Stourbridge Bee Keepers association, more information about them can be found on their website.
